A Raging Inferno (TD 1111.1035)

Tone sped to the scene as fast as he could. His heart was racing as he navigated the twists and turns. The size of the fire engine made it cumbersome to maneuver. Luckily Eeyo was by his side helping navigate.

They had received a call that a fire had broken out at a family home in a rural area, and they were the closest team to the inferno.

They faced a significant challenge in responding quickly, as the roads were not made to handle a vehicle the size of the engine they needed to take. There was no nearby water source, so they had to bring the largest engine which had a water container.

Given that they would already be delayed to reach the fire safely, they couldn’t wait for backup and headed out alone as soon as the call came in.

As they traversed the back roads heading to their destination Tone noticed a stretch where the engine would not be able to fit through a group of trees that the road passed through. Not missing a beat, Tone spun the wheel, and the engine bounced over the rut at the side of the road as they cut through a field just in time, avoiding crashing into the woods.

Eeyo gasped as the engine started to fishtail in the tall grasses as the wheels kicked up dirt. Tone quickly adjusted his steering and brought the engine back under his control.

As they pulled up to the home, the pair began to operate as one. Without any noticeable communication, they each executed their parts seamlessly to prepare to battle the fire.

After donning the safety equipment, Tone readied the hose as Eeyo connected the water source. They acted without hesitation, as the fire had already started spreading across the structure and into the field surrounding the home.

Tone’s aim was true as Eeyo released the water and ran to his side to help steady the hose which pushed and pulled the pair due to the pressure of the water escaping. Targetting the areas critical to prevent the fire from spreading more, they quickly contained things.

Section by section the duo doused and drowned the fire until the only evidence of a fire was the smell of burnt wood in the air and puddles of water that had accumulated around the home.

The family, who had escaped at the first sign of danger, expressed their gratitude to the team. No other crews would have dared to reach the home. Had it not been for Tone and Eeyo, the house would have been lost. Thanks to their first response and fearlessness, minimal damage was done.

Tone noted to the family as they were departing, ”I’ll be back, to help repair and rebuild. Just let me know what you need.” He was true to his word, returning that weekend with supplies to replace the damaged wood and walls. The story of what happened made it into the local paper, and the community rallied around the family to help. Thanks to Tone, Eeyo, and the volunteers they inspired, the house was fully repaired and in better shape than it had started.

A Venomous Journey (TD 992.1456)

Tone looked calm, cool, and collected, but on the inside, he was on high alert, and his mind was racing. A snake, coiled around his arm, could strike at any moment.

Tone had acted quickly, capturing the attention of the reptile before it could harm his companions. However, he did not expect to end up wearing the poisonous beast.

To make matters worse, Tone and his travel partners had just arrived from the future of an alternate universe. In their time, the snake’s venom may not be fatal. In this time, a single drop could mean the end.

Tone, Eeyo, and Sahm had made their way back to the 13th century on an instance of Earth in the multiverse other than their own. Tone had detected a ripple in time, indicating that others had traveled there with the intent of disrupting the future for their own personal gain, at the expense of many.

Such changes could have disastrous impacts across the multiverse. Tone, not knowing of any others who could detect and correct these events, felt a duty to protect the integrity of time. His gifts could not go unused, and he could not stand idly by when such events occurred.

Now, just moments after emerging from their time jump, Tone was questioning if it was smart to make this trip.

Calling upon his ability to commune with all living creatures, Tone directed his concentration on the snake. Snakes, inherently untrusting creatures, are notoriously difficult to communicate with in this way. Tone’s nerves weren’t making things easy. He was balancing his fears, the need to not accidently aggravate the snake, and needing to keep the snake’s attention on him.

Closing his eyes and focusing his thoughts, Tone began engaging with the snake. At first, things were not going well. The snake, unsure what was happening, began constricting around Tone’s arm as it hissed while bobbing and weaving its head. Fearing this could be the end, Tone changed tactics. Rather than try to impose his will on the snake, he apologized to it.

”We mean you no harm, and are sorry if our sudden appearance started you. You have startled us just as well.” He continued to calm the snake, building a bond and trust. Eventually, he felt the blood start to flow back into his fingers, the tingling sensation a sign that he had gotten through to the snake.

During this exchange, Tone discovered that the snake was kind-hearted, and had acted as it had to protect its family that was nearby. As it learned more of Tone’s reason for traveling there, it decided to join the group on their quest.

While the snake did not understand much of the purpose of the trip, it could understand that someone evil was near, and if they were not dealt with, it could be disastrous to the world the snake’s family lived in.

Tone, Eeyo, Sahm, and thier new partner, who remained coiled on Tone’s arm, gently now, started off through the forest. They knew not who or what they were looking for, but they knew they needed to find it soon.
